In Debra Fitzsimmons’ art, political and social themes emerge from contemporary issues. Her goal is to disclose influences governmental and private policies have on individuals and social environments. Her media is often a combination of classical oil, oil stains, and cold wax with collaged topical contemporary materials. The intent of this media combination is to tie the here and now of issues to an eternal context.

A doctor of education, Debra draws from her academic background though use of research and analysis methods for artistic approach. Similar to classical research, she works from a study statement or question, conducts a literature review and records observations. However, analysis of the resulting data is done as a visual metaphoric statement with implications conveyed thorough emotive imaging. Her art reflects, reveals, and comments on social conditions.

Debra Fitzsimmons is an award winning artist whose artwork has been featured in numerous individual, invitational, and juried exhibitions. In addition Dr. Fitzsimmons is also a published author, noted art educator and educational consultant.
